Library
The library of the
Institute for Philosophical Research has a rich collection of books
and periodicals in the field of social and humanitarian sciences,
which includes rare and extremely valuable old unique editions (some
of them date from 1566), Husserliana succession, Boston Studies
series, Synthese Language Library series and others.
The library was established in 1948 as an independent unit to the
Institute of philosophy of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The book
stock is organized accordingly the basic sections of the
philosophical knowledge – Ontology, Epistemology, Logics, Philosophy
and Methodology of Science, Ethics, Aesthetics, Social Philosophy,
Philosophy of Religion, politics and law, as well as many editions
from the range of science, economics, religion and culture.
The fund of the library amounts to 32 952 units, of which 24 929
books and 8023 periodicals. 7956 of the books and periodicals are in
Bulgarian, 10 443 – in Russian, and the rest – in Slavic, English,
German, French, Italian and Spanish.
The library has received as a donation the private library of the
academic members Todor Pavlov and Spiridon Kazandziev.
Currently received periodicals are 78, from which 55 journals and 23
series in Bulgarian, Russian, other languages.
Trough book-exchange in the library are received journals from the
Institutes of philosophy in Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary,
Slovenia and other South-East European countries.
From 2002 new books are cataloged electronically; in the future an
electronic connection with the Central Library of BAS will be
possible also, which will allow search in the entire BAS system.
