Department of Philosophy of history

The department is dealing with analyses of the essence, direction, driving powers, and different stages of global and social changes; the relations between different types of determinants in the historical process, their objective and subjective, material and ideal aspects; also spirituality in politics and economy, the role of person in history and social changes, the main characteristics of information, postmodern, knowledge-based, postindustrial, risk societies, and finally the relation between natural and social evolution. The department studies philosophical and methodological problems of social knowledge, and social sciences, often through interdisciplinary methodology.

A special emphasis is placed on the analysis of contemporary processes of globalization and particularization of the status and the perspectives of humanity after the collapse of the of state socialism in Eastern Europe, the character, the peculiarities and perspectives of the state of transition of the Eastern European societies, the spiritual processes in today's world, the philosophy of Bulgarian history and Bulgarian transition, complex analysis of catching up development of backward societies, philosophical dimensions of the European integration process. Its associates teach introductory courses for the PhD students in philosophy of politics, law, and economics.
